An August Update

I am super excited about August, but not for the weather (I’m a heathen who prefers cooler, not warmer temps, which is outrageous for a SoCal girl).

No, what I’m looking forward to is A NIGHT OF MAGIC, a special signing and charity even held in Los Angeles, California in just four days time! Here’s a bit more about it . . .

Bestselling Authors Heather Lyons, Chelsea Fine, Shelly Crane, and Stacey Marie Brown are coming together to create A Night of Magic on Saturday, August 13th from 6:00pm-10:00pm at Whimsic Alley located at 5464 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90036. With the door proceeds, as well as the money raised through the silent auctions, going towards the Race to Erase MS and Reading is Fundamental charities, A Night of Magic will be a special and intimate event where the attendee is able to spend four hours with the authors. Limited to 100 attendees, each ticket sold includes a special swag bag filled with limited edition swag, an author signing and Q&A session, finger foods, dessert, wine and drinks, as well as some special surprises! Make sure you get your tickets soon!

Some of the items that will be available at the silent auction include . . .
* A signed, frame print by Regina Wamba of MaeIDesign
* An autographed bookplate and a copy of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, along with a rare signed commonplace book
* A season pass to Universal Studio’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, alongside a robe and wand
* Bésame’s Red Velvet lipstick (the exact shade my beloved Agent Peggy Carter wears!)
* Autographed books by R.S. Grey, K.A. Tucker, Penny Reid, Cora Carmack, Kim Holden, AL Jackson, Kami Garcia, Kelly Elliot, J.T. Geissinger, Rebecca Donovan, Geneva Lee, Jennifer Snyder, M. Leighton, Bethany Lopez, and many, many more.
* One of my own books, annotated and filled with pictures. It’ll be a one-of-a-kind deal!

There will be surprise guests as well as a photo booth. The event is sure to be fun and definitely a night to remember. I hope you can come join us! Even better . . . there is a special $10 off sale right now. WOO HOO! Get your tickets HERE.
And now, the hard news, the kind I’m not super excited about.

I suffer from chronic migraines. Many of you who follow me on social media may know this about me. It sucks—like, one-hundred-percent sucks. Someone once described it to me thusly: A headache is to a migraine like stubbing your toe is to having a Zamboni run over your feet. This is a pretty good comparison. I have suffered from migraines my entire adult life, but in the last few years, they have intensified. This year, in particular, has been brutal and unforgiving. Here’s an article written by another mom, but it pretty much sums up my life right now: What It’s Like Being A Mother With Chronic Migraines.

A quote that really hits home:

“Even though I’m one of 36 million Americans that suffer from this disorder, I feel very much alone and misunderstood. I’ve stopped telling people I get chronic migraines because of the judgment that goes along with it. I’m generally met with a pitying look followed by, “Have you tried taking two Advil?” or my personal favorite, “Have you tried being less stressed?” It’s like telling a person with a broken leg to “walk it off.” They don’t get that a migraine is a neurological disorder that doctors don’t even fully understand. These well-meaning people view a migraine as merely a bad headache. Every migraineur knows that a true migraine is nothing that can be powered through.”

The good news is that I am under the care of some very attentive neurologists, we are all working hard on figuring out how best to get them under control. I tell you this in order to explain why, once more, I am pushing back the release of THE LOST CODEX (Collectors’ Society #4)—and why I will now not offer up a solid date but instead vow to you that I’m working hard on it and am nearing the finish line. It WILL come out in 2016. It WILL come out in late Summer or early Autumn. You will not have to wait a zillion years.

It just won’t be in time for A NIGHT OF MAGIC, which breaks my heart–nor will it be by the nineteenth.

I hope you will forgive me for taking this extra time. It wasn’t an easy decision by any means, especially since I had already pushed back the release once before. I won’t lie—I cried over the decision. Granted, all of this happened during a monster of a migraine, but still. I realized that I cannot rush THE LOST CODEX. Alice and company will not allow me to—they demand the best book I can offer you readers. And I demand the same thing of myself. I promise you this: I’m very excited about this story, and early feedback from readers tells me they’re feeling the same way. There are so many twists and turns, so many answers to all of those questions you guys have been asking me.

If you want to keep up to date on the progress, and even read exclusive teasers, be sure to sign up for my newsletter, as that’s where I’ll be keeping people up to date the quickest. You can sign up HERE. In fact, the bulk of this blog post was sent out in a newsletter in mid-July (blame my migraines from keeping me away from updating this, too).

Until the THE LOST CODEX comes out . . . my pr has a super fun contest going on for ROYAL MARRIAGE MARKET!  Check out the deets below!
